Summer Scorecard

  • Jul 26
  • 1 min read

This summer has become something of a numbers game. I find myself counting things I never intended to.

  • Number of baby turkeys trailing their mom.

  • Days above 90 degrees.

  • Full moons.

  • Rainstorms.

  • Moose in the neighborhood (still zero).

  • Green tomatoes that aren't even blushing yet.

  • Raspberries from a single picking.

  • Piles of noxious weeds I've pulled.

  • Boats on the lake.

  • Boat rides that ended with a sunset.

  • Local canyons explored.

  • BLT sandwiches.

  • Cinnamon rolls from Moose Buns.

  • Cubs wins (and inevitable losses).

  • Pickleball wins (still zero).

  • Visitors who say, "Wow, that's quite a view."

  • Projects started (quite a few).

  • Projects finished (enough).

  • Times I've said, "I can't believe we live here."

I suppose every summer has its own scorecard.

These just happen to be the numbers I'm keeping this year. Not because I planned to. Not because I set a goal.

Just because they're the things I've been noticing.

And that feels remarkably satisfying.
